Stewardship Couponing...

"The Storehouse"

I started couponing nearly 60 years ago with my grandmother, Ada.  Grandma collected S&H Green Stamps and Plaid Stamps.  They were collectively known as "trading stamps".   The more she shopped, the more stamps she got.  I remember licking stamps for those stamp books until my tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth.  The glue was not very tasty but I kept on lickin' because I knew that we were trying to get a reward.  Pots, dishes, utensils, a television or whatever I saw in the catalog, I just knew that one more lick could mean the difference between a coffeepot and a radio.  Ironically, I can't remember any of the items that we received from the boxes of trading stamp books we redeemed.
I, like many of you, saw the show, "Extreme Couponing" in the winter of 2010.  I watched with my mouth wide open for the entire show.  I was hooked! At the same time, I said to myself, "Oh, oh! The stores are not going to be happy with this revelation."  And they weren't.  Couponing is not like it used to be back when it was underground.  But, you don't have to be an extreme couponer to save tons of money on your groceries, cars, clothes, homes, etc.  Take what you learn from me and others like me and use it to change your shopping lifestyle and you will save money.
After grocery shopping, I love standing at the register watching the bottom line shrink.  When I scan my loyalty card, my store coupons, then my manufacturers coupons, AND then get more coupons with my receipt, I love it!!!
My goal is to help you begin to reap the rewards of couponing along your journey to stewardship!  Join me as I introduce you to the stewardship of couponing.  Proverbs 6:6-8:  Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest.”
Like the ant, learn how to “stockpile” for the winter weather and times of hardship.  Learn how to shop the sales and save30%- 70% (and more) percent every single time you shop at the grocery store and pharmacy.  Apply couponing strategies you learn to all areas of your finances.  The stewardship of couponing will help you become the master of your finances instead of your finances being the master of your life and that of your family.
"The Storehouse" - Malachi 3:10
Is it hoarding?  We do not buy what we do not eat.  We give of the “storehouse” freely to our family, neighbors, and our church’s homeless ministry.  We do not gather for the sake of “having it on hand”.  We enjoy the feeling of being prepared to help ourselves and others when needed.
Freedom from want will free you up spiritually and usher you into a spiritual state of charity.  You will have “stores” to donate to the homeless, hungry, and those in financial crisis.  We call our stockpile “the storehouse”.
“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple.  If you do," says the LORD of Heaven's Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won't have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!” Malachi 3:10 - New Living Translation

A Great Day Shopping!

Free Toothpaste at RiteAid and Super Doubles at Harris Teeter

This was a great shopping day for me at RiteAid and Harris Teeter.  I also shopped at ShopRite but until I dropped and was just too tired to make a video about my shopping trip there.  Anyway, here's the video about my RiteAid and Harris Teeter shopping trip.

Note: The sale at RiteAid ended Saturday but Super Doubles continue at Harris Teeter until Tuesday midnight.

Let me know about your successes, too.

Happy Couponing!

Detergent Labels are a Must Read!

CVS Shopping Trip

I was taking advantage of the CVS Proctor & Gamble promotion  (buy $30 of P&G products/get $10 ExtraCare Bucks) when I stumbled upon something that was completely new to me (see the video below).  I began my trip with $12 in ExtraCare Bucks that I received after three CVS Advisor surveys.  (You really should consider joining.)  In other words, I began my shopping trip with CVS' money.  I had to modify the transaction to comply with the CVS coupon policy of "max. 4 like coupons" per transaction.  In addition, this was also printed on the coupons.  So, I substituted two GAIN coupons to complete the deal.

My transaction is outlined below:
  • Buy 4 TIDE & 2 GAIN detergents @ $5.94 each = $35.64
  • $35.64 - $12 ECBs (from CVS Advisor surveys)  = $23.64
  • $23.64 - $6 manufacturers coupons = $17.64 OOP (out of pocket)
  • At the end of the transaction,  I received  $11ECBs ($10 ExtraCareBucks & $1 ECB Green Bag Tag Rebate)
  • $17.64 - $11ECB Reward = $6.64  or $1.11 per bottle

CVS Advisor Program...

Want to increase your ExtraCare Bucks savings?

Let me tell you how I "stumbled" upon a great opportunity to turn a few minutes into a few ExtraCareBucks.  An email with a polling request came to me via my CVS account email.  I took the survey just for the heck of it and I got $10 in ECBs!!!  The survey took me all of three minutes.

I noticed at the conclusion of the survey that there was a sign up for additional surveys via their CVS ADVISOR program.  So far, I have completed about 4 or 5 of those surveys.  Each survey's ECB reward is different.  Some give me $1.50 and this week I completed two for $5 each.  The best part is that the expiration dates are for 30 to 60 days.

I have included the link to the CVS ADVISOR  website for you.  They do not accept everyone for all of the surveys.  They will ask you a couple of questions about your spending and buying preferences to determine if you will fit a particular survey.  If not, they will let you know and you will be contacted the next time they have a new product or advertisement for CVS.

Before you register for the survey you must have a CVS ExtraCare Card; you must register your card on CVS.com (you will receive a coupon when you register for the first time), and you must be at least 18 years old

Tip: Respond as soon as you see the email for a survey opportunity.  They have a quota for each survey and once the quota is reached, no one else will be accepted for that survey.  Also, at the end of each survey, you will be asked if you "enjoyed the survey, thought is was a waste of time, etc." If you answer to the negative, you will probably not be invited to additional surveys.  On the other hand, why do it if you really don't enjoy it. Life is too short to do stuff you do not enjoy just for the money!

Back to Clipping!

True to the promise I made to myself, I did not clip coupons for an entire month.  I had more time to sit and vegetate, read a couple of books, magazines, etc.  But what happened most was, I missed tons of great bargains by not clipping my coupons.

I used the filing method (file uncut inserts) that many couponers have started using to save time by not clipping, sorting, and filing individual coupons.  But, I found that if I don't see, clip, and file each coupon, I don't know that I have it.  As a result, I can't mentally match up a sale item with the coupon.  Besides that, I really like clipping, sorting, and filing the coupons.  It's like counting money! Who doesn't like counting money?

I am planning a shopping trip for the end of this week.  Also, this Saturday, Wegman's is having a grand opening of their new store in Gambrills, MD.  Can't wait to see the bargains they will have.

Finally, I have been teaching several classes this fall and looking forward to the class I am doing for some parents at a local elementary school sponsored by their PTSA.

This is an exciting time to coupon.  I love stockpiling comfort foods for those cold wintry days and nights.  Soups and stews and lots of home cooking for the holidays are perfect for couponing!

Happy Couponing!
